Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Is there a cost for training or is it free?

A: Training is free for eligible participants.

Q: Is there a stipend or financial assistance provided throughout the training?

A: Hired provides transportation support and a laptop for participants to aid them in completing training and for future job searching efforts.  Additional support services, stipends, and incentives vary by training program.

Q: Can you guarantee that I will get a job following training?

A: While employment is not guaranteed, Hired staff work closely with participants to develop employment plans, overcome barriers, and build skills and credentials. We partner with employers who engage with training cohorts, present in class, and invite participants to apply for relevant positions. Participants also receive targeted job leads and can attend our weekly job search club following program completion. Our goal is to support each participant in achieving their employment goals.

Q: What is the attendance policy. Is training in-person or virtual?

A: We typically allow up to two excused absences. Because the training is short and fast-paced, missing more than that can impact your ability to keep up with the class programming.  Training is in-person, or a mix of in-person and virtual classes. We do not have a fully virtual training option.

Q: Does the training count as college credit?

A: Not necessarily. This depends on the career training program you enroll in. Some do include for-credit coursework, but, in most of the career training programs the participants earn a certificate through customized training provided by a college, which doesn’t necessarily include earned credits.

  • Q: What are the basic eligibility requirements for Hired’s career pathways training?

    A. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Provide valid work authorization demonstrating ability to work in the US

    • Provide proof of Minnesota residency (most programs require you to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area; some programs have further geographic restrictions, by county or city).

    • Understand and use the English language effectively  in a learning and professional capacity

    • Be aware that background check requirements vary by role and industry and may apply in some cases

    • Be prepared to actively job search and start work after completing training

Q: Is a math and reading assessment required?

A: Yes. Participants complete a CASAS math and reading assessment during the first few days of career training.  Most training programs require at least a 5th grade math and reading level.

Q: English is not my native language and I’m still learning. Can I still participate in the training program?

A: Hired assesses all applicants for training and career readiness.  Because of the hiring practices of many of our employer partners, and the educational needs of this program, we do have some requirements for language fluency.  If someone is below the required math or reading level, we may refer them to Adult Basic Education (ABE) first, encouraging them to return for training afterward.  We are committed to supporting long-term success for all our participants.

  • Q: I’ve applied, when will I hear back and what are the next steps?

A: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. A staff member will contact you with your eligibility status and share the next steps. If eligible, you’ll complete an employment plan (30-45 minute phone call or virtual meeting). Some career training programs may require attending an information session and completing typing and Microsoft Office assessments. Selected participants will receive details about attending the first day of training.

Q: Can I enroll in more than one career training program?

A: Not typically.  Our career training programs are designed to help individuals gain specific skills and credentials aligned with a targeted career path.  Because the goal is employment, participants should focus on one training program, then search for jobs that align with the program training.

  • Q: What is the relationship with my Hired counselor like?

A: Your counselor is your dedicated coach and partner. We work one-on-one with you to identify your strengths, set clear goals, and build a strategic employment plan. We stand in your corner, providing support and championing your success throughout your entire journey.

Q: Is Hired a job placement agency?

A: No, Hired is your strategic coach and connector. We give you the high-quality training, skills, and direct connections to employers that enable you to seek, secure, and retain stable employment. Our focus is on making you competitive and career-ready.

Q: Does Hired only help with job search skills?

A: Our support is holistic. We act as your advocate and connector, linking you to resources for essential needs like housing, childcare, transportation, and financial wellness, ensuring you can stabilize your foundation while focusing on your career.

Q: How long will I work with Hired?

A: The length of our partnership is based entirely on your individual goals and needs. Whether you are in a short-term Career Pathways training or a longer program, Hired is committed to walking alongside you for a significant period to ensure you achieve and sustain career stability.
