Suzana's Story
Suzana is a Hired participant from Cape Verde, Africa. She had earned a Degree in Psychology, and a PhD in Psychosociology in Brazil, and has resided in Minnesota for the last 4 years with her family.
Suzana is one of the first participants enrolled in Hired’s Internationally Trained Healthcare Professional program. From the beginning she was thankful for the assistance and support received from the program, and was motivated as she began the required steps for the MN Board of Psychology to become a licensed Psychologist in Minnesota with the assistance and support of her ITP counselor.
In the beginning, Suzana struggled to understand and figure out the steps to gain her license but was very determined. One of the requirements of the Board is to work 1800 hours of supervised employment in her field. She found and started a job as a therapist in St. Paul, but later found out through correspondence that her job did not meet the requirements of the Board since the person doing the supervision needs to meet specific criteria.
Suzana did not give up, and with Hired’s support she was able to find a psychologist that meets the Board criteria to give the supervision needed while she is employed at her current job. Suzana is very thankful for the program’s support and is confident that she will get her psychologist license in Minnesota.
Suzana’s nature and compassion she has for her occupation will have a positive impact on her patients, and her counselor is very proud of her progress.
