Katie’s Story

After more than 25 years as a successful engineer and leader, Katie’s life changed when a serious car accident left her with a traumatic brain injury. When she later lost her job, she found herself navigating an unfamiliar job search while also realizing she was ready for a new kind of career. “Here I was, having to look for a job after 25+ years of not having to do that.”

That’s when Katie connected with Hired.

With support from her employment counselor, Katie identified her strengths, refreshed her resume and interview skills, expanded her network, and received funding for a change management certification. Within four months, Katie found meaningful work at a local nonprofit, where she can combine her professional experience with her longtime passion for serving others.

Today, Katie is thriving in a career she once considered a dream.

“Hired helped me connect with my dream job and get employed with benefits again within four months,” Katie shared. “They helped me get employed and back to independence before I even needed other supports.”

For Katie, Hired provided more than job-search assistance. It provided confidence, encouragement, and someone to walk alongside her during an overwhelming transition.

“Hired is a great organization.. they have job counselors who've been there 15, 20-plus years and are absolute experts in helping you navigate unemployment and find a job that's really a fit. That expertise, and all the different ways they can help, means that no matter what someone needs, a Hired job advocate can come alongside them and offer a wealth of tools and practical resources to help them get on their feet — while also being a great emotional support and encourager. I've recommended Hired to so many people, and they've been excited and enthusiastic about having someone to help them with something so hard.”
