Erica’s Story
Working with a dislocated worker counselor through Career Force, Geraldine found their way to Hired and enrolled in the Career Pathways program. Classroom trainers Erica is a single parent and had been working as a driver, but the job requirements didn’t fit well with her parenting responsibilities. She connected with Hired last November and learned she qualified for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program -- Employment and Training (SNAP E&T). The program provides nutrition benefits, along with skills, training, or work experience, so that individuals can change their life trajectory and move towards self-sufficiency.
Erica enrolled in Hired’s Medical Call Center class, and completed the six weeks of training, along with an additional course in clinical terminology. Throughout the process, Hired was able to support Erica with her transportation and technology needs, including a laptop and headset.
Through the training, Erica received job leads and is now employed in a senior customer service role with a major health insurance company. Just two months after starting the training, Erica is working remotely – which fits better with her parenting responsibilities -- and she has a higher salary! connect Geraldine to people in government positions and they are now working at the Ramsey County Attorney Office. This past Summer, Geraldine started working towards a Social Marketing Certificate with the goal of completing their classes in the Spring of 2023. Throughout their journey, Geraldine has continued to keep in contact with Hired staff.
