Celebrating Women’s History Month

"At Hired, we see the power of women every single day — in the job seekers we work with, the staff who show up with heart, and the leaders who push us forward. Women's History Month isn't just a celebration for us; it's a reflection of who we are.”

We have been so excited to celebrate Women’s History Month here at Hired. Since 1968, Hired has been dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for all. Women throughout history have been monumental in strengthening families, workplaces, and communities, even as they were excluded from opportunity, undervalued in their work, and pushed into roles without stability or benefits.

Today, these inequities persist. Last year, 70% of the people Hired worked with identified as women. Research from the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota and the Center on Women, Gender, and Public Policy at the University of MN confirms what we see every day: women are disproportionately concentrated in low wage sectors, with many lacking access to workplace benefits that build long-term financial security.

Hired envisions a labor market that empowers women and ensures that they have access to benefits that allow them to build generational wealth and lasting stability.

We are proud that 76% of our own staff identify as women, and that our organization is led by people who live these values every day. Our President and CEO, Julie Brekke, and our Board Chair, Bernice Lamkin, lead our organization in breaking down barriers, ensuring that Minnesota builds a workforce ecosystem that embodies Hired’s values of empowering people and families, through a prepared workforce and an inclusive economy.

Julie shares, "At Hired, we see the power of women every single day — in the job seekers we work with, the staff who show up with heart, and the leaders who push us forward. Women's History Month isn't just a celebration for us; it's a reflection of who we are.

And the fact that the Twin Cities is receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award is due in large part to the courage and dedication of the powerful women who organized a network of support for our neighbors during the recent ICE surge.”
