“Far and away the best prize that
life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
— Theodore Roosevelt
What Makes Work Worth Doing?
Is it simply a way to put food on the table and a
roof over your head? Does it mean that you can own your home
and car, and that you can send your kids to college? Does
it provide you with a sense of accomplishment, and give you
pride in a job well-done?
Work
worth doing is all of these things — and more.
At HIRED, we believe that everyone deserves
a chance to work hard at work worth doing. Everyone needs
a job — a good job. A good job is essential for putting
food on the table and a roof over your head. It’s essential
for supporting and raising a family. It makes it possible
to stay healthy and plan for the future.
But too many people in our
community simply do not have the skills necessary to get and
keep a job in today’s labor market. There are youth
and adults with low math and reading skills. Many people have
not had the opportunity to pursue skill training. Some people
have been out of the labor market for a while because of personal
or family issues. Others have worked in the same field for
years only to find their skills outdated. Many simply don’t
know what they have to offer.
That's
why HIRED is here. We’re here to help people acquire
the basic skills needed for almost every job today, including
basic computer and customer service skills. We help them figure
out what they’re good at and how those skills translate
into jobs. HIRED is here to help people learn job search skills,
complete vocational training, find work and plan for advancement.
Last year, HIRED’s employment counselors
helped more than 3,000 people find jobs. More than that, they
helped them find good jobs — jobs in careers that will
provide them with long-term employment and opportunities for
advancement. For example, graduates of our M-Powered manufacturing
program are hired for positions with starting wages of almost
$12 per hour plus benefits — and many earn their first
pay raise after only six months on the job.
At HIRED, it’s our great honor to do
work worth doing. And we work hard at it.
We invite you to work with us. Volunteer. Spread
the word. Give.
