HIRED
Honors Its Employer Partners
On
September 27, HIRED honored its employer partners at a recognition gala hosted at the Minneapolis Central Library. The three-hour event on the library’s
second floor, which featured a spread of hors d’oeuvres and
live music from Sidewalk Café, was attended by nearly 75
individuals who make assisting HIRED clients a priority for their
company or organization.
In
addition to hearing from HIRED Executive Director Jane Samargia,
Minneapolis Public Library Director Kit Hadley, and Steve Hine,
Research Director for the Labor Market Information Office, the event
offered attendees the chance to network with fellow Twin Cities
area employers and learn more about HIRED’s efforts to positively
impact the future of workforce development.
Jane
Samargia said, “This is the first time we’ve hosted
this sort of appreciation event, and we couldn’t be more pleased
with the level of participation and support for our mission. Our
work to provide personalized and innovative work solutions is best
achieved through the collaborative efforts of employers, community
partners and government officials, so this was really our chance
to say ‘thanks for all you do.’”

HIRED to Assist Suburban Welfare Recipients' Transition to Employment
HIRED’s
experience and success in operating the Specialized Training and
Experience Program (STEP) for Ramsey County MFIP (Minnesota Family
Investment Program) recipients has helped secure a contract for
similar work in Dakota County. MFIP is Minnesota’s welfare-to-work
initiative. The new supported work program for Dakota County MFIP
recipients, titled Job Advance, will begin this month. Participants
referred to the program will attend a two-week orientation session
and then be placed in subsidized work experience positions with
local employers. The goal of the program is to give MFIP clients
work experience that will lead to a permanent position after the
10-week subsidized work experience has ended.
