Four HIRED Clients Receive “Holiday Wishes” Nominations

Sacrifice. Determination. Hope.

These three words define the journeys of the four HIRED clients who were nominated for the Pioneer Press/Twin Cities United Way Holiday Wishes program, a program that raises money for local families in need.

Mach Biel Kuel, Brittany Harris, Philemon and Katreece Coleman, and Tony Hampton and Latifah Bibbins all have remarkable stories to share. So remarkable, in fact, their HIRED counselors nominated them for the Holiday Wishes program. In turn, readers chose to grant their wishes through charitable contributions.

And what a response – cash donations were made that allowed these families to purchase winter clothes, diapers and basic household goods.  One reader purchased Brittany a laptop to help her with her homework and job search.

Still, the most common wish was for a full-time job.  Supporting HIRED will help make this wish possible for these families and the many others that HIRED serves.  Please contact Erin Loavenbruck by e-mail or call 612-287-1364 for more information.

A Fresh Start

Laura Rae never imagined she’d be where she is today. After learning that her employer – Champion Air – was closing its doors for good, Laura, an experienced trainer who had worked her way up the ladder at a variety of airlines, used the opportunity to reevaluate her career.

Laura said, “When you lose a job, there are a lot of unknowns, but I made up my mind from the very beginning that I would take this opportunity and make the most of it.” A mom to a two-year-old boy, Laura was looking for flexibility in her work schedule and a job that would allow her to help people.

Enter HIRED.

When thinking of HIRED, the first two words that come to Laura’s mind are supportive and encouraging. After talking with her HIRED employment counselor, Lenore Rockler, Laura decided to attend massage therapy school at Northwestern Health Sciences University. She received her certification in a little less than one year and since then, has opened her own business – Skye Massage Therapies in Burnsville.

“There’s no question that I couldn’t have done what I did without HIRED’s help,” said Laura. “In addition to holding me to task, HIRED gave me the tuition support I needed to receive my certification. I feel so lucky to have the job I do. I love helping people and my work is very worthwhile.”
