HIRED Featured on WCCO-AM

Reports on the overall state of our economy and the outlook on employment have a commanding hold on our local and national news. With employment on the minds of so many people, news outlets across the nation are turning to organizations like HIRED to provide expert opinions and connect them with job seekers. Last week, WCCO-AM reporter Adam Carter looked no further than HIRED for a personal account to round out his story for the station’s special series titled These Economic Times.

Carter’s piece, which examines current Minnesota employment trends, features HIRED client David McGee. McGee came to HIRED with more than 30 years of experience in the banking and mortgage industry, but since being laid off, he has turned to HIRED to help him land his next job to ensure that he can continue to make his monthly mortgage payment.

Cynthia Eskandary is McGee’s HIRED job developer and says McGee is not alone in his search. “We’re seeing large numbers of people like David who have a good, solid work history, but have found themselves out of work.”

New HIRED Works Program Focuses on Faces of HIRED

HIRED has launched an entirely new program for its HIRED Works events, intended to help visitors more fully understand the life-changing impact of the organization’s services. The revamped HIRED Works – which was unveiled at the October 16 session in Minneapolis – features first-hand accounts from HIRED clients, employer partners and counselors, as well as an expanded tour of HIRED’s offices.

Erin Loavenbruck, director of development and communications, said, “We’re very excited about the changes to HIRED Works. Not only does the new program give visitors a more in-depth look at our day-to-day work, it better highlights HIRED’s unique approach and introduces visitors to the faces of the organization.”

For more information about HIRED Works visit our website. To reserve a seat at an upcoming session, contact Nadine Sehnert at 612-302-8504 or by e-mail.

HIRED Program Named “Outstanding Youth Program of the Year”

HIRED’s Minneapolis Employment Training Program (METP) – an employment program for youth ages 14-21 years old – received top honors from the City of Minneapolis at a recent recognition ceremony. The “Outstanding Youth Program of the Year” award recognizes HIRED’s exceptional one-to-one approach in helping teens meet their academic and vocational goals.

HIRED’s METP program is operated out of Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis and St. Barnabas, a housing unit for homeless youth. Each year HIRED’s METP program serves approximately 100 economically disadvantaged youth, helping them develop leadership skills and providing supportive services to ensure their success in school and the workplace.

HIRED Senior Program Director Carol Aharoni said, “HIRED’s METP program has received high marks for its success in meeting performance goals, and we’re thrilled to have received this honor. More than anything, however, we’re proud of our day-to-day work, and for the opportunity to work with the teens that most deserve a second chance.”
