Workshops and Services

Work to Win is a seminar for MFIP participants designed to help them acquire the tools necessary for an effective job search. Topics include interest and skill identification, setting goals, filling out applications, job search methods, interviewing, résumé writing and cover letters.

The Employment Skills Workshop is a four-week job search skills training program open to all Ramsey County MFIP participants. The classes begin the first Monday of each month and are held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at HIRED’s Griggs Midway location. Topics covered include general PC use, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, completing job applications, résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing, online job searches and applications, and general office equipment use. With assistance from a HIRED trainer, participants write their own résumés in Microsoft Word, tailor cover letters to specific job leads and apply for jobs via fax, email and mail. For more information, contact Amy Collins at 651-999-5676 or by e-mail.

In addition to longer-term workshops and seminars, HIRED also offers its MFIP clients a drop-in networking group. The group meets twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at HIRED’s Griggs Midway location, and provides participants with an opportunity to share job leads and job search tips. For more information, contact Amy Collins at 651-999-5676 or by e-mail.

In some locations, MFIP participants can also complete our financial education workshop that covers budgeting, financial planning, credit and banking topics. The financial education workshop is made possible through a grant from the American Express Economic Independence Fund and the National Endowment for Financial Education. More intensive workshops are also available for participants in specialized programs. Contact your employment counselor for more information and a schedule of upcoming workshops.
