HIRED has teamed up with Hennepin Technical College to help to provide fast and practical skills training in bio-tech manufacturing. Minnesota is an international hub for precision medical devices, and the M-Powered program partners with these businesses to design trainings that provide job seekers with the skills that the industry is looking for. Through these partnerships the M-Powered program is able to provide students with the practical knowledge, machine experience, and job search resources they will need to secure a steady and good paying job. No prior experience in bio-tech manufacturing necessary.
M-Powered has two different tracks: J-Standard Soldering and CNC Mill/Lathe. The soldering class is an intensive one month course covering the basics of clean room soldering with the chance to earn college credits from Hennepin Technical College and receive the IPC J-Standard-001 certificate in soldering. The CNC Mill/Lathe course is a nine month course (three semesters) that prepares students to receive on-the-job training (OJT) from one of many Twin Cities manufacturing companies, and the chance to earn National Institute for Metal-working Skills (NIMS) and the American Society for Quality Control (ASQ) certifications. Both programs are tuition free.
As a part of the program students will learn the fundamentals of manufacturing and take specialized labs to hone their skills in the field. They will also receive training in interviewing, resume writing, and networking which they will use in the M-Powered career fair, which brings in representatives from a number of local businesses. After completion of the program graduates will work closely with experienced employment counselors from HIRED who will help them make the most of their skillset.
