Minnesota is the global hub of various manufacturing industries, particularly implantable medical devices such as defibrillators, pacemakers and artificial joints. Unfortunately, the manufacturing industry is experiencing a shortage of qualified workers, creating an urgent need for individuals with the right skills and knowledge.

HIRED and our partners offer state of the art training in high-demand manufacturing occupations. Our Career Pathway programs will teach you the skills to find a job in today’s fast-paced manufacturing industry. We offer a variety of services, including:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Hands-on equipment experience

  • Networking opportunities with manufacturing employers
  • Professional development training

Manufacturing training ranges from two to six months, and provides evening classes and flexible scheduling to accommodate your busy life. We’ll also help you enroll in and transition to college-level classes, ensuring that you achieve your educational goals. All of our courses include an opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials and college credits. In order to make training affordable, our staff will direct you to financial resources including financial aid, scholarships and grant-funded tuition assistance.

FastTRAC Soldering

According to recent labor market studies, Minnesota’s need for qualified solderers and assemblers is estimated to grow an average of 16% over the next six years. HIRED’s FastTRAC Soldering program will teach you the in-demand manufacturing skills to find a rewarding job in this rapidly growing field. Hennepin Technical College and Adult Basic Education (ABE) have partnered to teach integrated schematics, which is a diagram to represent electronic circuits, and soldering classes. Additionally, HIRED’s counselors provide individualized employment counseling and job search assistance, including resume writing, interviewing and networking.

FastTRAC is a Minnesota state-sponsored training model that offers a pathway for lifelong learning and career growth.

 

Location of manufacturing fundamentals classes: Various Adult Basic Education (ABE) locations in metro area

Location of soldering classes: Hennepin Technical College – Brooklyn Park campus

Length of soldering program: Less than 1 semester (2-3 months)

Credentials: IPC J-Standard-001 Soldering credential, potential 1 credit for Cleanroom class

Preferred candidate qualifications: Accuracy/attention to detail, dependability, flexibility, manual dexterity, basic math and reading abilities, problem-solving skills

Eligibility: 18+

Cost: Approx. $1,600

M-Powered

M-Powered CNC Training Video

For almost 10 years, HIRED and HTC have partnered to offer our award-winning M-Powered program. M-Powered provides training in computer numeric controlled (CNC) metal machining that is used in various industries, particularly by suppliers of small, precise, low-tolerance parts for manufacturers of medical devices, electronics, and other small manufactured goods. M-Powered has received national recognition and has been internationally replicated due to its success. In only six months, you’ll gain fundamental manufacturing skills that can be transferred to many other areas of manufacturing.

As a part of M-Powered, you will learn the fundamentals of manufacturing and take specialized labs to hone your skills. You will also receive training in interviewing, resume writing and networking. After completion of the program, you will work closely with experienced employment counselors from HIRED who will help you make the most of your skill set as you search for a new job.

 

Location of classes: Hennepin Technical College – Brooklyn Park campus

Length of program: 2 semesters (about 6 months)

Credentials: 18 college credits, 2 National Institute of Metalworking Standards (NIMS) credentials

Preferred Candidate Qualifications: Accuracy/attention to detail, dependability, flexibility, manual dexterity, problem-solving skills

Cost: Approx. $3,500

Manufacturing Assessment and Advancement Center (MAAC)

MAAC is a cutting edge program that is one of the first of its kind in the nation. Provided in partnership with Hennepin Technical College, MAAC has two distinct features:

 

1) Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)

Educational credit for your previous manufacturing experience in the military or the civilian workforce.

  • Reduces the time needed for you to complete your 1 or 2 year certificate or degree
  • Lowers educational expenses

2) Inverted Classroom

Combines online classroom lectures and hands-on learning to finish at your own pace.

  • Learn on campus or at remote training locations with virtual trainers
  • Flexible classroom schedule
  • Set your own speed for completing assignments

HIRED provides employment counseling and resources for MAAC participants, including help with resumes, interviewing, and networking.

MAAC is good for workers and employers alike. Individuals who are currently working, but need extra training to update their skills will benefit from our advanced manufacturing curriculum. Employers are encouraged to refer their staff to MAAC for additional training. MAAC allows for a streamlined, flexible means of acquiring industry-essential skills and knowledge that promotes employee development and company growth.

Location of classes: Hennepin Technical College – Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie for hands-on equipment training, with online learning for classroom content

Length of program: Variable, depending on previously earned credits and certification goal. Within a semester, the classes are self-paced. However, classes must be completed by end of semester.

Credentials: Various college credits, credentials, certificates, and degrees

Preferred Candidate Qualifications: Accuracy/attention to detail, dependability, flexibility, manual dexterity, problem-solving skills

Cost: Variable, depending on amount of credits taken. Per credit tuition is typically between $150 and $250.
